Electronic Filing of Alaska Partnership Returns Required – Tax & Accounting Blog

Taxpayers must electronically file Alaska Partnership Information Return, Form 6900 for 2017 and later tax years, starting February 10, 2018. In addition, taxpayers can file 2017 Form 6900  through the Internal Revenue Service’s Modernized e-File (MeF) program.

Electronic Filing of Alaska Returns

Electronic filing of Alaska tax returns and reports was mandated by H.B. 375, Laws 2016. The Department of Revenue’s portal for filing returns and reports is at https://online-tax.alaska.gov/ATP/WebDoc/_/.

Penalties for Failure to File

Failure to file electronically will result in a penalty. The penalty is the greater of $25 or 1% of the total tax due.

Waiver From Electronic Filing Requirement

Taxpayers that do not have the capability to file Form 6900 electronically may avoid the penalty by applying for a waiver. The waiver application, Form 773, must be filed at least 30 days before the return is due. An approved waiver is valid for five years.

A waiver will not be granted if the partnership is required to file its federal return electronically.

Taxpayers can find the waiver application online at http://tax.alaska.gov/ or by calling (907) 334-2524.
